Week 23


This week we reviewed the words we have learned over the past couple of weeks. One more maatraa to go! And then we will move on to basic present tense sentences.
 Language Day has been moved to April 22nd. Please let me know if your child will not be able to attend. For language day we will sing and act out 3-4 songs. Some children have volunteered to dress up as various characters. Please discuss with your child if they want to dress up as a character (mouse, doctor, elephant, etc) and help them with their outfit!
 We continued practicing some of the songs for language day. For homework please have your child practice at home:

Week 22

 We started off the day by reviewing last weeks words. We did this in the format of game where the students buzzed in if they knew the words.
 The students continue to earn Monopoly money that will be spent at the year-end bazaar.

 We also reviewed the song Mera Joota Hai Japani. For language day (April 8th) the students will sing the main verse of the song. Your child can practice by watching the video here, upto the 1-min mark:


 We also reviewed Aaj Mangalvaar Hai:

Please let me know if your child will not be here on Language Day.

Next we learned the following new words with the next maatra:

गोल (gol) (round)

घोड़ा (ghoRaa) (horse)

चोर (chor) (thief)

छोटा (ChhoTaa) (small)

मोटा (moTaa) (fat)

By now you know the drill for homework! Please show your child the pictures below. Then please ask them to say the word in Hindi, and then to write it and make a sentence with it:

WEEK 21


 Today we reviewed the words we learned last week. We also learned the following new words:

शेर (Lion)

बेटी/बेटा  (Daughter/Son)

मेज़ (Table)

We then moved on to the next maatra and did the following words:

पैर  (foot)

पैसा (money)

गैस (gas)



We also did pages 27 and 28 and the Hindi Workbook.
For homework, please have your child practice writing the 6 words listed above, then show them the pictures below and ask them to say the word in Hindi:

Week 20


Congratulations to all the students on the good job that they did on the midterm. We will return the exams next week.

Today we moved on to the "e" maatraa.

We played a game of pictionary and learned the following words:

तेल (oil)

केला (banana)

अकेला (alone)

पेट (stomach)

खेत (field)

सेब (apple)

देश (country)

पेड़ (tree)

For homework, please  ask your to look at the pictures below, and then to say the hindi word out loud and then write the Hindi word:

Midterm Exam Preview



Here is a preview of the midterm exam. We will be reviewing all of this over the next 2 weeks.

ORAL EXAM:
For the oral exam, we will ask the student to translate 5 sentences into Hindi. The sentence formats are shown below. The nouns/verbs that they will need to know are also listed below.

Translate the following sentences into Hindi:

Week 16

   We started the class of with the "pass the parcel"-type game that we first played in Week 14.. The children had opportunities to earn more Monopoly money (Reminder: We'll be doing a bazaar in a future class, where the students will be able to spend their earned virtual money). The game was quite fun and ended up lasting for most of the class.
  We then went on to learn the following new words:

पूजा (pooja) (prayer)

सूरज (sooraj) (sun)

फूल (phool) (flower)

भालू (bhaaloo) (bear)

सूखा (sookha) (dry)

For homework: please say the above words in English, and have your child say the translation in Hindi. Then have your child practice writing the word.

NOTE: The midterm exam will be on Feb 11th. We will spend the next 2 weeks reviewing what we have learned so far. There will not be any specific homework. I would just ask your child to practice and review for the midterm. In a few days I will post what the students should expect on the exam.
